About Me

Just an artist doing the best that I can.

Who is Okami Arata?

I am a furry visual artist who is part of the LGBT+ community at being bigender and demisexual, and also a part of the Furry and Brony communities.
I was born in 2001 in Mexico City. My father is an independent artist and my mother a veterinarian.
Since I was a child I always been interested on art and cinematography because the influence of my Dad and the fact that I always consume a lot of tv shows, movies and music, specialy I always loved going to the cinema.
When I was a child I won the second place on a drawing contest and, then when I was 9 years old I take a vacation course about Cinematography and I made my first film script and I act on a little short film.
I learn some about drawing when I was a child because of my dad and becase I took two drawing courses but I didn’t finish them.
I take a technical career of “Diseño y material educativo web” when I was on the last year of High School on “CCH Vallejo”.
Then, I started to study the career of Visual Arts on “Facultad de Arte y Diseño, UNAM” at 2019 and finished the last semester of the career at 2024.
Also, I take a course to leran how to use ZBrush and another to use InDesign on my university.
Finally, I am studying Web Design as a posgrate on “Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México”.

Why I do what I do?

First, it’s important to me to say on my own words what is what I do, and that is express me, express emotions, express ideas and try to be empathic with my art, and I just choice furry art like a method to express all that things just for a simple reason:
“The furry itself is a symbol of liberty”.
Why did I say that? That’s because I was part of furry community since 2016, before that I only was part of Brony fandom who help me to learn more about the values of “Love and Tolerance”, but the furry community learn me something more important and that was “Liberty”.
On the furry community you can create your fursona (a character like an avatar that represent you in the furry community), mine is Okami Arata (a wolf, coyote and japanese dragon), with that character you have the oportunity to express yourself on a way you don’t usually do. That’s because you can be yourself but at the same time you can be the version of yourself that you want to be, you can express who you really are including gender, personality and sexuality.
Also, is normal to find people who is part of LGBT+ community who find in furry community a refuge to feel safe and express with the liberty that they deserves.
Finally, the important fact of using anthropomorphic animal characters let you to play with a lot of topics, because you can put any emotions on that characters and create a creative scene that express more than just a human character. Even, you can take the own personality traits of the animal you choice and connect it with the human emotions to boost an art message with a lot expressive character.
Then, having that in mind I use all of that to create my own art compositions, trying my best to express a lot of emotions in a scene and be empathic. I can use my own fursona, a character that I only create for a scene or some character or fursona who represents someone else and use it to express something.
I am not only limited to furry art and I can do any art pieces without an anthropomorphic character, but I do furry art mostly because I feel better doing it, it’s my mark and I want to give to the furry art the importance that it deserves.
